Dylan was born on the 20th of July 1997 at Farnborough Hospital in Kent,
United Kingdom by emergency c-section. After a straight forward pregnancy,
his birth was not to be the same. Our special boy was in hospital for a
period of 3 months after his birth and nearly did not make it. To this day we
still do not know the reason behind it all but if you look at him today, you
would never believe the rough start he had.
His initial diagnosis was low blood sugar but when that could not be
controlled using the conventional methods, lots of other probelms occured
and he had to be transferred to Guys and St Thomas's Hospital in London
where he was put on a ventilator for 2 days. After much deliberation with all
the various medical teams, and trial and error really, our little man was
finally allowed home. All of this, at the start of his life have resulted in him
having a moderate to severe hearing loss and mild cerebral palsy.
But with all his adverse conditions, he is an amazing boy! He loves his
family dearly and loves nothing better than having us all around him ... some
say, these are characteristics of a cancerian. He has come such a long way
and is now at a mainstream school and is doing well. He too loves football
and is a whizz on the computer ... hopefully following in his dad's very
capable footsteps! For someone who has gone through so much already in
his young life, all I can do is commend him as he has taught me a lot, not
only about myself, but about life!
