Looking back from today, on this page I wish to reflect on where we (The Harris Family) began, how we have come to be where we are and introduce some of the people that, although they are not still with us, formed a special part of our lives.

JANE HARRIS (NEE HUGHES)
This was a difficult piece for me to write as I wanted the words to be a worthy and fitting tribute to the woman I called 'MOM' - not MA (boy did she hate that word), neither MUM (guess 4 years here in the UK wasn't enough). So I have given up my lofty ideas of writing inspiring prose safe in the knowledge that those who knew her
are fully aware what a special human being she was, without needing to read what I write. For those who didn't know her, if my words don't convey that message then the fault lies in my ability to deliver it fittingly.
What I will always remember and treasure is her selfless care for others, none more so than in her raising of her two boys (Raising not 'bringing up' - if only I had a quid for everytime that correction was made). In doing this Mom had to, more often than not, perform the role of both parents. This she did sacrificing nearly all of her time.
This time was spent in her effort to provide us with the best possible start to our lives.
I can proudly say that this was a goal she achieved, despite her worrying over Brett during his 'wilder' teenage years.
The saddest part of all is that just when her focus had returned to her own aspirations (helped in no inconsiderable way by the generosity of 'Aunty' Betty James and her uncle Bevis 'Bob' Davies), she fell seriously ill and passed away suddenly at the tradgically young age of 43.
This selfless sacrifice is something I remain forever grateful, yet am almost ashamed to have received, my only consolation is that I know she is relaxing 'up there' enjoying watching all the fruit of her labour!
THANKS MA

OUR FAMILY BEGINNING
Lance and I (Sally) met on the 6th of August 1993. I was at the time nearing the end of a very destructive relationship with a work colleague of his and we had been invited to Lance's birthday celebration. That night there was a definate 'connection', and when my relationship with Leroy finally ended, and I was left without a partner for a hockey year end function, it was he who said ... "Why dont you ask Lance?" .... and the rest they say is history! On the 30th of September 1994 Lance popped the question on one knee at the top of Signal Hill (Cape Town, South Africa) A year later, on a coldish Friday in September, we were married. We bought our first house as a married couple in August 1996. On finding out we were expecting our first child, we moved to England and since then have lived in 8 different houses in 6 different suburbs in two countries. Dylan was born in July 1997 and Liam followed in November 1999.

BRENDA STEPHEN, AKA: BUNNY, GOGGO,
I have to start off by saying that like Bob Marley, my grandmother is a legend! Although sadly she passed away in June 2006, she will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She was the rock that held our very extended family together for so many years and she touched the lives of everyone in some way. For this reason, in honour of a truely remarkable woman. I have created a special page dedicated to her so that she will live forever, if not in body, but in cyber space. All you have to do is click on her picture, turn the pages, and remember ...
